Literacy tutors and instructors have the opportunity to teach or tutor adult English language learners as they develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Volunteers can either teach a regular class, a small group or work individually with students.
Classes generally meet Monday-Thursday afternoons, 3 to 5 pm and Saturday mornings, 10 am to noon. Evening opportunities are also available.
Literacy training is provided, including 12 hours of ESL training through Literacy Works and ongoing observation of staff instructors and seasoned volunteers. Volunteers are also given the opportunity to network at ongoing supplemental training offered through Literacy Works and IAC’s Education & Employment department.
For more information, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Deepika Bawa at dbawa@indoamerican.org or 773-973-4444 ext. 112.
