- A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
The Friends of Raymond will hold their Fall Park Day on Saturday, October 13th at the Raymond Military Park located off Highway 18 just west of Raymond High School. Park Day is an opportunity for volunteers to help clean-up, provide grounds maintenance, paint cannons, clean signs and help with other chores for the preservation of this historic 1863 battlefield. The Raymond Military Park, while valuable as an historic site, also provides the community with a walking trail that is used by many local citizens.
Volunteers are needed beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Workers will be provided with lunch. A local historian will also be available to describe the park’s significance. Interested volunteers are encouraged to contact Pam Howorth at (601)373-3166 or by email at friendsofraymond@outlook.com for more information and to sign up to help on Park Day.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Friends of Raymond is to preserve, interpret, manage, and promote significant historic sites in Raymond, Hinds County, Mississippi, and the surrounding area and to receive contributions or grants from any and all sources to be used for one or more of the foregoing purposes.
Description
Friends of Raymond is an all volunteer organization founded in 1998 to preserve historic sites around the beautiful town of Raymond, Mississippi.
We are governed by a nine-member Board of Directors elected by the FOR membership, and all work is done by volunteers - there is no paid staff or administrative costs that are not used to directly support the organization.
Our group has purchased, preserved, and provided historical interpretation for the original site of the Battle of Raymond, which was an important part of General Ulysses S. Grant’s 1862 Vicksburg campaign during the Civil War. We work closely with the City of Raymond to coordinate historic preservation efforts for this beautiful and historic area. All work depends completely on memberships, donations, and sponsors.
