Traveling Stories would like to read to kids with you! Sheckler Foundation’s 9th Annual Skate for a Cause
3 shifts available:
9:30am-12:30pm, 12:30-3:00pm, 3:00pm-5:30pm
In the United States, 82% of kids from low-income families cannot read proficiently by the 4th grade. This makes a child up to 15x more likely to drop out of school, which leaves them unqualified for 90% of jobs. (Annie E Casey Foundation & NAEP). We currently serve more than 3,000 kids a year through our StoryTent programs, which take place every week at farmers markets in El Cajon, City Heights, and Imperial Beach. Kids visit the StoryTent, pick out books that interest them, read out loud with a volunteer and earn book bucks for every book read. With their bucks, kids can buy prizes. Our El Cajon and City Heights StoryTents serve a large community of refugee children and families, and we're looking for people with a passion for working with a diverse group of children.
