Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest is seeking a volunteer to assist individuals experiencing hardship and need support paying a utility bill. Arizona struggles with the 6th highest unemployment rate in the nation and a lack of affordable housing. Both of these factors contribute to poverty, hunger, and people living on the streets. Assist LSS-SW in stabilizing lives in times of crisis and transition.
Responsibilities and key deliverables- Schedule appointments for clients via telephone
- Assist clients face to face to provide utility assistance/payment
- Administrative tasks such as filing, copying, editing
- Manage the back-to-school backpack and clothing program, as well as Christmas gift program
- Must have basic computer skills
- Experience with data entry preferred
- Strong customer service skills
- Attentive to detail
The volunteer will have access to a desk, phone, and computer. The volunteer will serve in a typical office setting in the food pantry of Victory Lutheran Church.
Clearances required & trainingThis role requires a Verified Volunteer background check ($17). Volunteers are responsible for the cost. All volunteers are required to complete a central registry background check (no cost) at the volunteer orientation.
Location & timeframeThe volunteer will serve at Victory Lutheran Church 5946 E University Dr. Mesa, AZ 85205. Volunteers will serve in 2 hour shifts, flexible Mon-Thurs.
