Mission Statement

Cultivate KC grows food, farms and community to support sustainble, healthy, local food systems in the greater Kansas City area.

Description

Be a part of the local food movement! Cultivate KC is a locally-grown non-profit working to grow food, farms and communities for a healthy local food system.

We grow food. We're farmers who work to feed you, your family and your community good, fresh, real food right here in Kansas City.
We grow farms. We're educators, trainers, facilitators and organizers. We work to help growers develop skills and access resources to start sustainable farm businesses on our city's vacant land.
We grow community. We bring people together. We help farmers connect with each other. We help farmers connect to their neighbors and community. We help you connect with your farmers.

Founded in 2005, Cultivate KC believes that urban agriculture is fundamental to building an alternative system for our city. We manage two three food-growing sites: Juniper Gardens Training Farm, home to the New Roots for Refugees program; The Food Forest, a permaculture site; and Westport Commons Farm, a demonstration farm in the heart of KC. We support urban farmers through technical assistance, training and mini-grants. We also manage Nutrition Incentive Programs that increase access to local food for low-income individuals, families and seniors. Through our work, we aim to build a healthier, more economically and environmentally sustainable community.
