The Edenvale branch library is looking for an adult volunteer (16+ years old) who is fluent in another language to read to/with local children in a bilingual setting once or twice per month.

Reading to children requires working with children and families to develop language skills, an appreciation for storytelling, active learning and development, and foster a love of lifelong learning.

All who are interested and meet the qualifications cited below are welcome to apply.

Qualifications

  • Age 16+
  • High degree of initiative and creativity
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Ability to develop and work with a team
  • Excellent oral communication and written skills in English and Vietnamese

Commitment

  • 6 month commitment, 1-2 hours per month.

Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.
