An AARP Tax-Aide Counselor provides free income tax form preparation and answers tax questions for low- and moderate-income taxpayers two or more days a week during the February to April tax filing season.
You will be required to attend January training sessions on the tax code and tax software and to complete and pass the IRS take-home exam. Volunteers need to apply by early October in order to be scheduled for training. Familiarity with tax preparation software is a must for counseling, although administrative positions are available without that requirement.
This is a great opportunity to help low-to-middle-income and older taxpayers in your community.

The AARP Tax-Aide is a free volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service available to taxpayers with low and moderate income, with special attention to those age 60 and older.
AARP Tax-Aide's nearly 36,000 volunteers work at 6,000 sites nationwide to serve 2.5 million customers annually. All volunteers are trained and IRS-certified, with most providing tax counseling and return preparation via e-filing. Locally over 100 volunteers work during tax season at 19 Westchester sites including libraries and community centers. This is a program of the AARP Foundation that offers free tax counseling to taxpayers across the United States.
