We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are interested in advocating on behalf of individuals who use and inject drugs. There is a public health need to increase access to sterile hypodermic needles for people who inject drugs, as a means to reduce the spread of HIV, hepatitis C and other bacterial infections.
Volunteers would be involved in registering independent pharmacies across Rockland County in a New York State Department of Health program that would authorize these pharmacies to dispense hypodermic needles without a prescription. Volunteers would be traveling across Rockland County, so a car is preferred.

Mission Statement
Rockland Connects is a movement to improve the lives of people who use drugs, and those who care for them, in Rockland County. We provide an empowering and judgement-free space for peer support and safety, while also connecting individuals to life-saving knowledge, treatment and resources, and overdose prevention. We envision building a community that is free of opioid-related deaths. We want Rockland County to be a pioneer of human rights for people who use drugs.
Description
Rockland Connects is a harm reduction organization that works to advocate for the introduction and expansion of services that work to reduce the harms of drug use.
We bring awareness to the growing opioid epidemic in Rockland County through educational events and research efforts. We also are working to expand public health efforts to prevent overdose, HIV, and hepatitis C among those who use drugs in Rockland. We currently provide free overdose reversal training to community members across the county. Soon we will be offering rapid hepatitis C testing, as well as syringe exchange services.
