Mitsy Kit Adaptive Crafting and Sewing For All

If you or anyone you know want an opportunity to make a lifechanging, personal impact in an elder’s life - this is it!

We have a great opportunity starting in April for volunteers who would like to assist in workshops twice per month for approximately 2 hours per workshop. These workshops will take place in a Senior Care Center for the memory impaired in the Drum Hill area of Chelmsford Massachusetts.

The first two sessions will be held Friday April 6th and Wednesday April 18th, and starting in May will be scheduled for the first and third Wednesday of each month.

Primary skills required are caring, compassionate, patience working with the elderly, professionalism, ability to follow simple directions and provide guidance to others to help with simple directions. Crafting and sewing experience is a plus but not mandatory as long as you are willing to learn our simple process. We will provide training which will only require about an hour of your time.

Not only will you be improving the quality of life for those you assist, you will get to have fun working with elders to complete beautiful fabric projects and make meaningful friendships along the way!

Please let us know if you can help us fulfill our mission by becoming a workshop assistant and joining our volunteer team in Chelmsford!

Feel free to also pass along to others you think may want to be involved. We look forward to having you join our team!

About Mitsy Kit Inc.

Mission Statement

We help to connect lives and create memories with accessible, quality craft activities.

Description

Mitsy kit was initially developed to help the blind and visually impaired to find joy and purpose through the activity of sewing and quilting by touch, using our patented tactile sewing system and method of use. We soon realized that many others, in addition to the blind, benefited from our kits to re-engage in meaningful activities. This prompted provision of our kits and services to support a broader community including those with memory impairment, autism, aphasia, traumatic brain injury, and other seniors and children with or without physical or cognitive disability.

Organizations served include Centers for the blind and low vision, Senior Centers and Council On Aging, Nursing Homes and Assisted Living, and Dementia residential care facilities, as well as activity programs for the disabled.

Although our current products are sewing and quilting focused, we are committed in the long term to designing new kits to meet the needs of the diverse population we serve.
