This is an amazing opportunity to work with the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, by providing a much needed service. This is a free event for the Pets of the Community residents, and Tribal Members.

Volunteers are needed to set up the event, from 5:30 AM to 7 AM. Then from 7 AM to 9 or 10 AM, volunteers are needed to take dogs and cats back to the crates. We have a shot Clinic from 9 AM to around 5 PM, and we will need Volunteers to help check in Clients. Lastly, volunteers are needed to tear down crates and help clean up from 2 or 3 PM to . . . when the last animal goes home. The last animal is usually discharged around 5 PM, it all depends on how many Clients attend this event, if there are any emergencies, and if there are more spays than neuters. Sometimes, we are there as late as 9 PM, sometimes we get out early, around 5 or 6 PM, and sometimes are done by 7 PM. Our busiest times are in the early morning and then whenever we start discharging and tearing down crates. This may vary as to when we start discharging.

Depending on the Volunteer's level of comfort, there may be some interactions with the Community. It really depends on the Volunteer and what tasks he/she is comfortable doing. Flexibility is key. Tasks may be assigned and then changed because Clinic needs have changed.

This is a first-come/first-serve event, and we will only take a certain number of spays and neuters. We usually provide surgical services for 30 to 60 dogs and/or cats. It is not an intense set up or a deep cleaning. Set up is putting crates together and staging areas for intake with tables and chairs. Tear down is breaking down crates and cleaning them, then loading the Van and helping to clean the area. This is an amazing opportunity for animal lovers and people that like to be of SERVICE!!!! Please let me know if you are interested. Thank you.

Volunteer Orientation will be held March 12th, 2018, at the Starbucks on Gilbert and McKellips in Mesa, at 6:30 PM.

Our vision is to open a full-service facility in the SRPMIC that focuses on improving the lives of people and animals. This facility will be the epicenter for animal welfare and behavioral health in the community. We will provide a wide range of animal welfare services including: veterinary care, emergency medical treatment, shelter, adoption, animal-assisted children’s literacy, and behavioral training. The center will also support families, children and youth through a variety of behavioral health and educational programs. Additionally, we are exploring the launch of an Equine Therapy program where we can leverage the displaced horses in the SRPMIC to provide therapy services to the community.
