Duwamish Alive! Spring 2018: Duwamish Shoreline

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Forterra

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Join friends and neighbors at our annual Spring Duwamish Alive! event along the Duwamish Shoreline behind BECU in Tukwila! This is one of our biggest events of the year at the Duwamish Shoreline, and is a great way to get involved with the Green Tukwila Partnership! Let’s work together to improve the health of our River and its Watershed.

After planting and mulching along the river at the Fall Duwamish Alive! event, the riverbanks are in need of some weeding! We will be focusing on removing invasive species like Himalayan blackberry from the shoreline.

While you’re here, keep an eye out for otter, osprey and other wildlife making their home along the river’s edge. This is a great way to give back to your local community, and is also an awesome opportunity to meet some new faces, to get your hands dirty, and to get outside and connect with the Green-Duwamish River!

About Forterra

Mission Statement

Forterra's mission is to act with immediacy to protect, enhance and steward our region's most precious resources--its communities and its landscapes. Since 1989, we have been working toward a future in which our children and grandchildren can experience nature in and around our urban environments.

Description

Forterra conserves land by working with individuals, companies and local governments. We strive to maximize the ecological value of land, while meeting the needs of landowners. We may accept land as a donation, purchase it, or transfer it to public ownership. We often serve as a broker to identify and negotiate the most effective ownership to protect important lands. We establish conservation easements to preserve special features. For each and every property, we explore available strategies or create new ones to provide permanent protection. Forterra has established a Conservation Agenda for our region, with specific priorities and methods for each type of landscape. Current initiatives include the protection of working forests on the foothills of the Cascades, and the creation of salmon sanctuaries along our region's highest quality rivers and streams.
