Open Heart Magic is a non-profit organization that has grown to reach over 12,000 kids this past year at twelve children’s hospitals in Illinois, Michigan and Ohio including the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital, University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic. We anticipate reaching several new hospitals in the Midwest in the coming years with a five year plan to expand to a new state.

Here’s a quick introduction video showing the impact on kids and sharing how we grew to reach 10,000 kids:

Along with this growth comes the need to bring on additional brilliant volunteers for strategic planning and administration to support this expansion at our Board level. Open Heart Magic’s Board of Directors is looking to bring on a professional with accounting and/or financial planning experience, preferably in the non-profit world, to help the Executive Director and Board of Directors prepare financial planning, review the annual budget, assist outside professionals with the annual audit, assist in compensation reviews to build the organizational foundation and team, and help implement best practices to further support the growth of Open Heart Magic.

The Treasurer is vital to the success of Open Heart Magic and its continued growth and development. The individual selected for this role will serve as a volunteer member of the Open Heart Magic Board of Directors on a renewable two-year term, and will also be part of the Executive Committee.

The Treasurer will play a key role in reviewing the finances of Open Heart Magic and communicating the financial health of the organization to the Board of Directors, including:

  • Working with OHM staff to prepare and review the annual budget
  • Reviewing and monitoring monthly financial reports for adherence to budget and appropriateness of expenditures and accounting
  • Assisting OHM staff and outside auditors with the annual audit review
  • Providing input in the annual compensation review for OHM staff, including the Executive Director
  • Advising the Board of Directors on potential areas for financial growth and capital investments or utilizing other Board members’ expertise to coordinate these projects.
  • Helping the Board Executive Committee develop and manage a Finance Committee.

As a member of the Board of Directors, the Treasurer is also expected to assist in the general Board responsibilities such as being an ambassador for the cause, raising funds for the organization, and bringing people to OHM events.
