Music

The Little Sisters of the Poor run a nursing home for the elderly poor in the Clifton area of Cincinnati. Do you enjoy music and talking with the elderly? If so, this is the area of volunteer service for you! We have recently started a new music & memory program and seeing tremendous success!

Music and Memory is a program that utilizes personalized music playlists. Each music playlist is specifically made for each individual. No playlist is the same. iPod shuffles are used along with headphones to provide residents with a relaxing musical experience. This program is designed to increasing meaningful social interactions, reduce anxiety, reduce agitation, and increase memory recognition/memory recall. Social bonding and relationships can also be developed which helps improve resident’s quality of life. The iPods are kept in the nursing office to allow our residents 24/7 to their personalized music. We need our volunteers to sit with the residents and listen to their music playlist and encourage social interaction and meaningful conversation.
