Cancer Survivors Day at the Indiana State Fair

Little Red Door Cancer Agency (LRD) strongly believes in the importance of discussing and celebrating cancer survivorship. LRD believes the conversation should focus on the importance of early detection, and follow up care for cancer survivors. However, currently there is no large scale event that celebrates Cancer Survivors Day (traditionally recognized on the first Sunday of June) in the greater Indianapolis community.

In an effort to hold such an event for cancer survivors in central Indiana and reach the largest possible audience, Little Red Door will host Cancer Survivors Day on Sunday, August 12th at the Indiana State Fair. Cancer Survivor’s Day will feature a full row of tents, booths, displays and activities dedicated to survivorship, named Survivors Lane. Little Red Door will provide at least 1000 tickets to cancer survivors in the greater Indianapolis area to attend the fair on this day.

In order for our event to be successful, we are in need of 150 volunteers.

Lastly, volunteers will be asked to help assist and engage participants in the Big Red Bash Experience. (the Big Red Bash Experience promotes members of the community to make healthy lifestyle changes that can help prevent certain cancers. These changes are as simple as making healthy diet choices, exercising regularly, and practicing UV ray protection. Participants in the Big Red Bash Experience take a pledge through LRD’s Big Red Bash app to make a specific healthy lifestyle change.) The Survivors Lane Volunteer Shifts are as follows:

  • 9:30AM - 1:00PM
