Time commitment
Approximately 12-20 hours distributed across the summer of a semester.
Responsible to
Santa Clara County 4-H Youth Development Program Representative.
Responsibilities
Work with and mentor teen leaders to plan and teach computer science lessons to 4-H youth, potentially ranging in age from 9-19.
Background
A variety of content is available, from CS Unplugged, CS First (Scratch), and more. We have 20 Chromebooks and 20 Google Cardboard units (with phones) available to use.
Specific tasks
Complete a six hours training in Computer Science (CS) (3 hours online and 3 hours in-person training) or attend the April 7 th training.
Determine a project meeting schedule with at least 6 total hours of content.
Work with teen leaders in a youth-adult partnership. Provide coaching to students, facilitate the reflection process, and establish mutual learning relationships with youth.
Communicate with 4-H YDP Representative on a weekly basis.
Implement pre and post-surveys with students at predetermined dates and submit surveys to 4-H YDP Representative.
Come prepared to the weekly CS Pathway sessions.
Qualifications
Desire and ability to work with youth, provide feedback, encouragement, and mentoring.
Ability to commit approximately equal time to planning/preparation and lesson facilitation, roughly 12-20 hours total.
