The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Rescuing Leftover Cuisine is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which provides a volunteer platform throughout Massachusetts to bridge the gap between surplus fresh and prepared food from businesses to local shelters and soup kitchens who freely give this food to those in need. We are excited to grow our Massachusetts Branch and are seeking volunteers throughout the State. Anyone can volunteer: whether you’re 9 or 99, travel by 4 wheels, 2 wheels or 2 feet, you can volunteer! For kind kids under 16, an adult must be present, making this a gratifying family effort. An average Volunteer Opportunity rescues 50 pounds of food, feeds 40 people ...and takes about 30-60 minutes!

In 2017, over 40,000 pounds of food accounted for over 30,000 meals for those in need throughout MA, thanks to the collaboration of our food donors, volunteers and recipients.
Regular Pickups take place every day from restaurants and businesses such as Dig Inn, Pret A Manger, Nanigans, thoughtbot, Datadog and more. These daily food rescues are currently only in Boston, and we are working hard to expand outside of the city. Emergency Pickups include requests from The Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel, Lombardo's, Granite Links Golf Club, Anti-Defamation League and more. These spur of the moment food rescues are sporadic, and are separate from the "Regular" calendar events. As an RLC Volunteer who has opted for Emergency Notifications, you’ll receive a phone text if a food donation is within four miles of the address you provided when signing up. Like Uber or Lyft, to "Claim" the pickup, you simply click the text link to follow the steps. Each of these reputable businesses are paving the way towards positive social and environmental change in Massachusetts, and we are proud to call them our partners.
