Join City of Raleigh Parks Staff as we mulch, one of Raleigh's oldest parks, Nash Square. Mulch is used to help retain moisture, protect against weeds, and to create a well landscaped aesthetic.
Volunteer Duties: Volunteers will use hand tools such as hard rakes and pitchforks to spread mulch. Wheelbarrows will also be used to transport mulch across the park to the designated landscape beds.
Special Information: We will supply tools, gloves, snacks, water, sunscreen, bug spray, and a first-aid kit. Volunteers should wear loose comfortable clothing that can get dirty, and sturdy closed-toe shoes such as sneakers or hiking/work boots.
Volunteers will have to find parking downtown in the paid garages or along the streets.
Shifts: Volunteers can sign up for one or both shifts. There will be a lunch break in between the morning and afternoon shift.
1st Shift - 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
2nd Shift - 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Work Environment: This park requires a large amount of mulch to be moved. Our staff will stage it as best as we can, but a lot of it will have to be moved using a wheelbarrow. This will be a physical day and will involve some uneven and soft ground. There is not a restroom on site, but across the street is the Municipal Building which does have one.
Volunteer Requirements: You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer. All volunteers will need to complete a volunteer release form that will be emailed out to them prior to the event.
Group Registration Information: Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. All volunteers must register as individuals, but if you are a part of a group, please list the group in the "Registration Notes" when signing up.
Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
