We are looking for volunteers who can manage basic data entry into an app on a tablet, phone or computer to help with our client appointment system, from 7AM-10:30AM on Fridays. Volunteers will receive basic training on site before their shifts.
Help combat hunger in underserved communities! Many of our clients, who receive this and other survival services from us, stay connected to the organization and involved in community activities that tackle issues affecting their communities. Volunteer as you gain knowledge of community organizing and what providing survival services do to the empowerment of our clients; volunteer along clients in a dynamic environment and in an organization with a long history of organizing and community empowerment.
Wednesday Shift Tasks:
- Enter client data on our database through a laptop, desktop, phone, or tablet,
- Classify and organize the items in the food pantry,
- Label the items in the food pantry
Location: 301 Grove Street, Brooklyn, NY 11237
Requirements: Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. It is most important to us that participants have a strong desire to support and work with the immigrant community. Willingness to learn, great teamwork, communication skills, and an enthusiastic commitment to supporting immigrants will be required from all volunteers. Screening and application materials as well as orientation and training will be provided and required from all our volunteers.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (cans and other food items) approx 50 lbs
- Reliable, Responsible, and Trustworthy
- Patient and with a good sense of humor
- Great team player
- Highly motivated and willing to help
- Basic computer knowledge (for Wednesday’s Shift)
Desired but not required:
- Bilingual (Spanish-English)

Make the Road New York forges alliances between New York communities that face shared hardships and injustices. All of the communities in which we work are predominantly populated by poor and working class Latinos, immigrants and African Americans. MRNY ' s 10,000+ members come from over 25 different countries and have a wide range of experiences and backgrounds.
MRNY has centers in Bushwick, Brooklyn ; Jackson Heights, Queens ; Port Richmond, Staten Island ; and Brentwood, Long Island , a nd our membership also draws from the surrounding neighborhoods of Bedford-Stuyvesant, East New York, Ridgewood, Woodside, Elmhurst, Corona, Central Islip, and Patchogue. Our advocacy and litigation work affect millions of other low-income and immigrant New Yorkers on the citywide level and increasingly at the state level.
