Beyond Walls Volunteers are an essential part of our programming! Volunteers may assist in facilitating health/fitness and squash drills or activities, mentoring students one-on-one, tutoring and aiding in homework completion, and guiding students through the facility during transitions to, throughout, and after programming.
There is no need to be a proficient squash player or coach or to be an expert in any academic subject area.
In learning the sport of squash, any experience with a racket/racquet sport (tennis, racquetball, etc.) may be beneficial, but is not required.
A commitment of either 2 or 4 days per week is preferred.
For special requests, such as volunteering only one day/week or volunteering for only a portion of programming (i.e. For only the athletic or only the academic portion), contact a staff member to discuss possibilities.

Tuesday/Thursday 3:00-6:00pm
Monday/Wednesday 3:00-6:00pm

Mission Statement
The mission of Beyond Walls is to inspire confidence and encourage academic excellence with urban youth as life-long learners and active leaders -- both on and off the court.
Description
Beyond Walls is an after-school program serving middle and high school students (6th-12th grades). Our mission is to inspire confidence and encourage academic excellence with urban youth as life-long learners and active leaders - both on and off the court.
We believe academic success comes from more than just completing homework and getting good grades. Rather, it is positively impacted by having caring relationships with peers and adults, feeling a part of a supportive community, and being physically, mentally, and socially healthy and supported. That is why Beyond Walls aims to pair academic development and college readiness with physical activity and an additional focus on health and nutrition.
By using the unique sport of squash, students are pushed to learn and grow while being introduced to this new activity which, until recently, has been unavailable, unknown, and out-of-reach for most, if not all, of these students.
Founded by the Squash + Education Alliance(SEA), Beyond Walls expands the horizons of local students through opportunities to travel to similar urban squash programs across the country while building a vast new network of friends and support within the squash community.
