Outreach Volunteers help share information and raise awareness in the community. Volunteers will represent Harborview Medical Center and Safe Kids Seattle/South King at a variety of local events and health fairs located throughout King County. Outreach opportunities become available throughout the year (however, May through October is our busiest time) and may require evening and weekend availability. The one-on-one interaction makes this volunteer position perfect for those who enjoy chatting with community members and wish to make a difference at the community level. Volunteers may also be asked to occasionally help with bike helmet fittings for children at some events. No prior event/outreach experience necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in community/neighborhood events
  • Assist with set up and/or tear down of booth
  • Provide information about Harborview Medical Center’s mission, services and injury prevention information to community members


  • Must be able to interact positively with community members and other volunteers
  • Interest in working with diverse communities
  • Friendly, outgoing personality

Time Commitment :

  • Flexible hours: weekday, weekend, and evening hours available. The Community Outreach Coordinator will contact you to sign up for events as they become available.

Volunteers must attend a two hour New Volunteer Orientation prior to attending events. Orientations are offered the last Wednesday of the each month. If you are interested in becoming an outreach volunteer, please e-mail Fran Kwak at fkwak@uw.edu
