RESTON'S ARBOR DAY
Monday, April 2, 2018 (FCPS Student Holiday)
9:30am - Noon
All Ages: Children under 13 must be supervised by an adult.
Reston is a Tree City USA as certified by the National Arbor Day Foundation. Join us as we help plant native trees, plus a variety of shrubs, ferns and wildflowers. A special Arbor Day presentation and flag raising ceremony will take place at 11:45am followed by a free pizza lunch for volunteers at the Walker Nature Center.
ARBOR DAY SITES
SITE 1: Meet at Old Trail tot lot.
Planting site is around Shadbush Court and around tot-lot at the center of the Old Trail Drive loop. 5 dead red oaks were removed from this area-20-24" and a large dead white oak by the tot lot.
Volunteers will continue to remove some invasive plants such as English ivy and double-file viburnum and then replant with oaks and shrubs.
SITE 2: Meet at Volleyball Court off Thunder Chase Drive in Polo Club, behind 12700 Thunder Chase Drive.
Replace lots of the white ash trees that have come down throughout this area along paths and wood edges.
SITE 3: Meet at Hunters Woods Pool Parking Lot
Replace trees along path, also a temporary road was cut in to remove large tree that was a hazard. The road can be reforested. The path is behind Bassett and Quorn Lane.
