Mission Statement
Mill City Grows is growing a healthier community by creating new opportunities for residents of Lowell, MA to access healthy, fresh, affordable foods. Our mission is to foster food justice by improving physical health, economic independence and environmental sustainability through increased access to land, locally grown food and education.
Description
Come Grow With US! Mill City Grows currently operates 3 Urban Food Production sites where we grow and harvest organic produce. Our produce is distributed throughout Lowell through our Mobile Farmer's Market and has ten stops throughout the city. We also operate 8 community gardens, 14 school gardens, and provide educational programming where we strive to engage and educate our community members on food production and food justice. Through our programming we hope to:
- Facilitate the creation and management of urban production sites in Lowell;
- Engage community members in food production via community garden membership, educational workshops and seasonal events;
- Create communities dedicated to and benefiting from the sharing of resources and knowledge;
- Develop markets as access points for consumers and distribution points for producers.
