KPFT is Houston's commercial-free community radio. We operate on member contributions which we raise during on-air membership drives. At any time throughout this membership drive, we might have three to six volunteers working the phones and entering contributions into our database.
We would like to create educational materials and training aides for these volunteer roles. The media we select will depend on our team's skills. Whether you are a technical writer, an illustrator, or a filmmaker, we can use your help.
We can especially use your help if you are a professional educator, bilingual in Spanish, and skilled in the art of process improvement--like lesson study or six sigma. The process will include iterations so that we can measure impact. Our efforts are only valuable insofar as they lead to skilled volunteers.
Please join us. At this early stage, we will be bringing the project into focus and refining our scope. Whether you can contribute four hours or forty, we can find a role for you.

Mission Statement
To establish a Foundation in radio broadcasting operations organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes; to encourage and provide outlets for the creative skills and energies of the community by conducting classes and workshops; to offer performance facilities to amateur musicians; and to promote and aid other creative activities which will serve the cultural welfare of the community. To engage in any activity that shall contribute to a peaceful and lasting understanding between all of humanity; to gather and disseminate information on the causes of conflict; and to promote the understanding of issues regarding: political, economic, religious, philosophical and racial antagonisms. To promote the full distribution of public information; to obtain access to and to employ sources of news not commonly brought together in the same medium; such varied sources in the public presentation of accurate, objective, comprehensive news on all matters vitally affecting the community.
Description
KPFT is a radio station, situated at 90.1 FM. We are one of the five stations that comprise the Pacifica Radio Network.
Nearly 90 percent of our funding comes from individual listener- members. We have no large corporate sponsors. All too often, massive funding arrives with an agenda, not to mention all those commercials! Because of our independence from concentrated control, you can hear the difference between KPFT and any other station in the first 10 or 15 minutes of listening. We are definitely different, and we revel in it.
KPFT has set the standard for what listener-supported community radio can be. We serve the Greater Houston and Galveston population of nearly six million people, reaching almost 150,000 listeners every week and bringing to the airwaves an eclectic schedule of music, news, languages and information programming. In our 40+ year history, we've grown along with Houston, helping to foster cooperation among the various peoples of the community and becoming a unifying force in a city of great economic and cultural contrasts.CAUSE AREAS
