ORGANIZATION: Project REAL

  • 3 people are interested

About the position:
Project REAL is a small nonprofit organization that has a significant impact in Nevada. We serve an average of 16,000 students in Nevada each year with a team of just 2 full time employees, 1 part time employee, a few interns & contractors, and our invaluable volunteers.

Under the direction of our Program Director, the Volunteer Artist will create illustrations for 3 slide-shows that teaches students about criminal court people & terms, and the steps in a criminal trial.

Each slide-show contains several slides with 2-5 sentences each. Project REAL is seeking a volunteer artist that will provide illustrations for all 3 slide-show presentations, so there is a visual consistency to the presentations. Each slide show is used individually in the class-room (1 per period, over 3 days) as part of an exercise that ends with students participating in an exciting mock trial at the end of their Project REAL Week Experience!

Great for those Seeking Fame & Recognition with 4th Graders (and those wanting to be published!),
We will eventually convert the slide-shows into printed books which - like all of our resources provided to schools - will be distributed at no cost to the schools, teachers, or students we serve. We won't be selling the books so this is a volunteer-only position, but your work will eventually appear in books used by thousands of students throughout Nevada! Cool stuff, right? Maybe you should apply (you should!).

About the position's requirements:
Our Volunteer Artist will be available to meet at least 1 hour a week with our Northern Nevada Program Assistant in or near our office (located in the National Judicial College building on the UNR Campus). Art can be completed remotely, however the regularly scheduled in person meeting is required.

We are specifically seeking an artist that can complete this project by May 15, 2018 if not sooner. If that deadline is making you reconsider applying, please don't! Come on and apply, we may just need to accept a later date - especially if your illustration style is worth it (We get it - quality can't be rushed!)

An Academic Credit / Internship / Work-Training Opportunity(if you want):
While it is not a requirement for filling this position, if you have some kind of official need to meet, simply let us know who to reach out to! If your organization is willing to partner with us, we'll be happy to get things rolling!

About Project REAL:
Project REAL has served the student of Nevada since 2005 by teaching them about the law, their rights, and how to use those rights. We contribute to a safer Nevada where students obey they law and improve their communities through civic engagement and volunteerism.

Our work includes providing courthouse field-trips to students that get to see live criminal court proceedings, teaching students laws they are likely to encounter and need to be aware of, providing learning opportunities outside the classroom, and developing healthy relationships between students and law enforcement officials.
