Coaching Corps is leading the field in how sports can be used to improve health, educational, and social outcomes for kids, and we are excited to spearhead a national movement of volunteer service on behalf of youth through sports. 

We are seeking highly energetic, passionate, outgoing, and committed students to serve as team captains. The fellowship is an opportunity for you to create positive social change by recruiting and supporting volunteer coaches, who will develop deep and meaningful relationships with kids in afterschool sports programs. As a Coaching Corps Team Captain Fellow, you will develop your leadership skills while engaging communities through the transformative power of coaching. Plus, you will receive mentoring from our staff all year. Are you ready to join us in changing the game for kids?

Service Commitment

  • Live in Los Angeles
  • Serve 10-15 hours per week from August 2018 - June 2019
  • Coach at least one season

Fellowship Requirements

  • Training/Mentoring
  • Attend an orientation in May (web-based)
  • Meet with supervisor in July (method determined by supervisor)
  • Attend Fall Retreat (August)
  • Participate in monthly fellowship professional development offerings (September-May)
  • Meet weekly with your supervisor to reflect on and debrief your experience
  • Coach recruitment
  • Attend campus and local community events to enlist 15 volunteer coaches per season
  • Conduct a minimum of 4 formal presentations each season (fall/spring) to share our work to campus organizations or classrooms/departments
  • Research and post volunteer positions online and in-person (on-campus and community)
  • Volunteer management
  • Track and update volunteer placements on Salesforce
  • Routinely call interested volunteers
  • Evaluation
  • Complete performance reviews with supervisor (end of fall and end of spring)
  • Complete end of service survey
  • Submit final two-page reflection paper on experience
  • Assist in regional Coaching Corps events


  • Provide opportunities for kids living in underserved communities to play sports
  • Network with fellow students committed to social justice
  • Develop your skills in community outreach, volunteer management, database management, marketing and communications
  • Build your resume and earn letters of recommendation
  • Receive a $500 service award at the end of the fall and spring
