Our parent training program is called Tuesday Talks. These happen all over the greater Austin area. They were every month on the 3rd Tuesday, but right now we have temporarily cut back to every other month (even months). We have a lot of Spanish speaking families that want to come, however we do not have the budget to hire interpreters. We need a volunteer or a few volunteers that we can call on to attend the Tuesday Talks and be our interpreters so that the Spanish speaking families are able to get the information as well.
Dinner is provided, and it is a very casual meeting. Sometimes we are North, South or Central Austin. If we are able to get a volunteer that is willing to travel around town, great. If not, we will try to find volunteers in each area.
On occasion, our presenters have handouts that they offer to families. Sometimes they have Spanish and English, but in cases where they have Spanish only we would ask these volunteers to translate the handouts as well so that online we can offer both languages.
We have fun family events through the year as well. Ideally these volunteers will also attend these events to interpret any public announcements made as well as to interact with the Spanish speaking families.
Casey's Circle volunteers all have as much fun as the families we support. All of our volunteers sign up to come back as often as possible. With this volunteer role after 1 year you have the opportunity to be on our advisory committee (great for resumes).
