Refugee Life Skills (ESL) Volunteer Leader

LSS-SW is seeking a volunteer leader to coordinate a team of 12 ESL Life Skills volunteers. LSS-SW offers Life Skills ESL classes 3 days/week to refugee and asylee populations. Classes are taught entirely by volunteers. As the Volunteer Leader, you are the point person for up to 12 volunteer teachers.
Responsibilities and key deliverables- Facilitate teachers’ access to necessary materials (online or in office)
- Oversee ESL library of instructional materials, books, media
- Help onboard new volunteer Life Skills ESL teachers and equipment, adding useful Life Skills materials
- Aid communication between volunteer teachers
- Work with volunteer teachers to modify existing ESL curriculum to be targeted at pre-literate, basic, and beginner levels
- Ensure all attendance is reported accurately
- Basic computer skills necessary including familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive.
- Experience teaching LEP adults or developing ESL curriculums preferred.
- Must be reliable and self-directed
The volunteer will work in a typical office setting with access to a computer at the LSS-SW Refugee & Immigration Services office.
Clearances required & trainingThis role requires a fingerprint clearance card ($65). All LSS-SW volunteers are required to complete a central registry check when they attend a volunteer orientation (no cost).
Location & timeframeThe volunteer will serve at the Refugee & Immigration office located at 3443 N. Central Ave, North Rotunda, Phoenix, AZ 85044. 9-12 hours per week, Tues-Thurs 9:30am to 1:30pm.
