Media Relations Volunteers act as the point of contact for local media in their neighborhood, and ask those outlets to tell stories about our work or share information related to our mission and advocacy efforts. Volunteers monitor local news outlets in order to understand how Alzheimer's Association messages might fit in. They then approach their assigned outlets and reporters with information and ideas, under the direction of the chapter communications director and with input from the advocacy team.
Media Monitoring:
- Read local papers, at least weekly and preferably daily, to identify topics that relate to the Alzheimer's Association mission
- Monitor other local media (broadcast, internet, social) and identify opportunities to engage.
- Identify local media members who report on dementia, healthcare and other relevant topics
- Under the direction of communications staff, reach out to local reporters with news and information
- Write or coordinate others to write Letters to the Editor
- Assist in placement of calendar items
- Keep communications staff apprised of opportunities as they emerge

Mission Statement
The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. Our mission: To eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. Our vision, A world without Alzheimer's disease.
Description
We provide programs and support services for patients, families, caregivers, and others in the San Francisco Bay Area affected by Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Outside the federal government, the Alzheimer's Association is the largest research funder in the country and offers advocacy opportunities to make public policy change.
At the Alzheimer's Association, diversity and inclusion are vital to our mission. The Association leads strategic initiatives to support diversity and a culture of inclusivity. These strategic initiatives also strengthen outreach to all populations, providing communities with resources and support to address the Alzheimer’s crisis. By partnering with organizations locally and nationally to advance diversity and inclusion, the Association can broaden its reach in all communities.
