The Tiyya Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. We strive to provide community support and educational opportunities for families of refugees, low-income immigrants, and displaced Americans. In doing so, we hope to create a community that fosters the development of self-sufficiency, ultimately helping our program participants overcome obstacles and actively participate in society.
Since members of the public are not aware of local refugees and the resettlement process, Tiyya's Executive Director is regularly invited to provide presentations, attend meetings, and participate in interviews about the refugee/immigrant clients that Tiyya supports. We are seeking a responsible and enthusiastic intern that can support Director's schedule, emails, partnerships, and donor engagement.
Meetings will take place at The Tiyya Foundation and the Gyspy Den in Santa Ana, CA

Description
After being uprooted, starting over can be very challenging and emotionally consuming for refugees and displaced families. Newly arrived parents struggle to navigate a foreign system in which basic daily tasks, such as public transportation, doctor's visits, grocery shopping, etc., become challenges. Furthermore, they cannot provide their children the support they need to succeed in school and feel part of our community .
Tiyya is a grassroots organization that provides programmatic support for the whole family. Led by volunteers, our vision is to create a society that is compassionate and understanding of refugee experiences through developing relationships and fostering the public’s engagement.
