The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Are you passionate about working with school-aged youth from diverse backgrounds? Would you like to positively impact students in the Greater Madison community and empower them to succeed in school and life?
Then become a tutor through the Schools of Hope Middle School Program! Schools of Hope serves as an effort to help reduce the gap in academic achievement between students of color and their white peers in Dane County schools. Help give hope to a 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student by assisting them with course work, skills building, organization and test preparation.
Tutoring sessions take place at Sherman Middle School, during the school day, 7:35 am to 2:47 pm, or after school from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. In as little as 1 hour a week you could have a significant impact on a student's confidence and performance in school!
