Looking to spend your free time doing something worthwhile? Wanting to make a difference in a youth's life, but don't know how? Become a a tutor! This is a fantastic opportunity for future educators, college students anyone who works with the public to make a difference in someone's life!
The Grand Rapids Center of Community Transformation is looking for volunteers to help tutor our upcoming cohort for YouthBuild. This is a federal grant through the Department of Labor and works with youth ages 18-24 earning their GED. The program is 27 weeks and covers four academic subjects: Language arts, science, math and social studies.
This will invigorate youth in their academics and helps develop skills youth will need to be successful in real life. For example, YouthBuild works with students' skills in job-readiness, financial literacy and to help students prepare for future careers through job shadowing or internships.
Through the Grand Rapids Center of Community Transformation, tutors will be matched with an individual student or placed in a group, depending in each tutor's comfortability. Tutors will be able to see students succeed in their education and grow as young adults. Furthermore, tutors will be given gas cars to help alleviate the cost of gas, among other incentives throughout their commitment as tutors in Youthbuild.
If you would like to learn more about our program and ways you can get involved, please reach out to Elliott Barrett at ebarrett@bethany.org
