Everyone needs a friend in life and does not want to feel alone. No patient dies alone. At the heart of hospice is the belief that every patient will have a caring, supportive person at his/her side at the time of death.

The Vigil Team steps in to provide comfort in the last hours, simply by being present, playing music or reading. Once the clinical staff has ensured that patients are comfortable, volunteers are the caring, compassionate companions who offer extra support to patients and their families.

Our current team of Vigil Volunteers are happy to share their stories of spending a few hours with patients who are near death. The Vigil experience is a calm and peaceful one that brings comfort to families and patients (especially those who have no family).

To learn more about the Vigil Volunteer Team, plan to attend our 11th Hour Vigil Volunteer Orientation.

At the heart of hospice is the belief that every patient will have a caring, supportive person at his/her side near the time of death.

The Vigil Volunteers step in to provide comfort in the last hours, simply by sitting at the bedside of a hospice patient in their last hours. Patient support can come in the form of being present, playing music, reading (the Bible or comforting material to the patient), or simply holding a patients' hand. Once the clinical staff has ensured that the patient is comfortable, volunteers are the caring, compassionate companions who offer extra support. The Vigil experience is a calm and peaceful one that brings comfort to patients (especially those who have no family). Our Vigil Volunteer program is an "on-call" opportunity to comfort and support patients in need.

Applicants would attend regular hospice volunteer training as well as get special vigil volunteer training. If you are a compassionate person who is sensitive, flexible and empathetic to the needs of others this might be for you.

Make an impact by being the friend someone needs in life and death. Please contact us to learn more about the becoming a Vigil Volunteer.
