The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Are you a high quality volunteer? Are you interested in mentoring youth? Do you have knowledge and experience with Golf? Can you commit to a full season (9 weeks)?
We believe positive youth development happens through a meaningful, quality relationship between the coach and participant. Volunteers with knowledge and experience in teaching, coaching, mentoring or playing golf are ideal mentors.
Volunteer Coaches (mentors) assist with specific classes during each season, and on an ad hoc basis throughout the year. Our classes meet once per week for 9 weeks; this includes 8 weeks of instruction and a 1 week break. Volunteer Coaches commit 2.5 hours/ week in a given season.
We welcome Junior Volunteers! Non-participants of The First Tee of Silicon Valley must at least be in 9th grade and are only eligible to volunteer for PLAYer part 1 classes, the entry point for our participants.
Instructors for The First Tee of Silicon Valley are responsible for the delivery of The First Tee Life Skills Experience and upholding The First Tee Coach Philosophy. All of our instructors start out as volunteers. Volunteers demonstrating natural mentoring abilities and exceptional adherence to our coaching philosophy are selected to become instructors. There are extensive training requirements to move from a Volunteer Coach to a full Instructor. Thank you for giving your time and talents to our participants!
