Join the Parkland MS Girls on the Run team as a Coach on Tuesday and/or Thursday 3:00 - 4:15 PM!! YOU can unleash the strength, bravery, and limitless potential of girls right here in Montgomery County!

Girls on the Run of Montgomery County is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and preparing girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The Volunteer Coach position is open to adults 18 years and older looking to lead lessons out of the Girls on the Run curriculum to facilitate the practices.

Girls on the Run offers before and after school programs for 3rd through 8th grade girls that promote healthy choices and inspires physical activity. Girls meet twice each week during the season (March 9-May 22nd). The weekly lessons prepare the girls physically for a non-competitive 5K (3.1 mile) run held on May 17t1h at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda, and mentally for various life issues pre-teen girls typically face.

Volunteers must commit to attending at least one practice per week for the duration of the season.

Coaches must complete an online registration, background check, online training (1 hour), and in-person training (4 hours). Volunteers do not need to be runners, just willing to serve as a role model for their team. Volunteer assignments are subject to availability, scheduling, and need.

Description

At Girls on the Run we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
