Memories in the Making is an art program that gives the opportunity for creative expression to those living with Alzheimer’s disease. The watercolor based painting sessions take place weekly in long term care communities throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Volunteers would be matched with a location that meets their time and travel requirements.

Training is provided prior to starting. Volunteers work side by side with a staff person to assist as needed, encourage and lend artistic guidance. All art materials are provided. Each participant paints at their own pace, inspired by photos or objects. A story or memory is elicited at the time the painting is completed. The combination of painting and story telling encourage socialization and contribute to the participant’s sense of worth, accomplishment and well-being.
