This is an excellent opportunity for groups or businesses to volunteer!
Since 2002 we have hosted a free STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) competition for middle school students in north NJ. This program challenges the students to work as a team to create a model solar powered car. In the process they learn communication skills, alternative energy technology, the engineering design process and have best of all they have fun!
We award students for Speed, Engineering, Craftsmanship, Best Use of Recycled Materials and Progress Journal.
We need volunteers to assist with the Speed portion of the competition by being Start Line and Finish Line Judges. We need Vehicle Judges to score cars in Engineering, Craftsmanship and Best Use of Recycled Materials. We have remote volunteer opportunities as well for scoring the students digital Progress Journal. We need volunteers to help at our Fix-It Table to repair broken cars. We need volunteers to distribute a digital survey for teachers and students. Most of all, we need volunteers that will be a positive and supportive voice as hundreds of middle school students present their creations.
We need our volunteers to be able to arrive at 7:30am. Students arrive at 8:30am and racing begins at 9am. The award ceremony concludes at noon the latest and then we take down the event. This is an outdoor event but if we have inclement weather, we move indoors. You will be provided with an official "Volunteer" shirt to wear all day as well as a thank you present for your time.
