Cooking Matters at the Store is a free program that empowers families to stretch their food
budgets so their children get healthy meals at home. Families on a tight budget report that the cost of
healthy groceries is their biggest hindrance to making healthy meals at home, but together we will
help overcome this barrier!

We are looking for volunteers to help with a Cooking Matters at the Store event day at the Walmart Supercenter at 17850 Garland Groh Blvd., Hagerstown, MD.
Volunteers can sign up for the following shifts:

9:30 AM-12:00 PM Half-day
12:00-2:30 PM Half-day
9:30- AM-2:30 PM Full-day

Refreshments will be provided! Set-up will begin 30 minutes prior to start time and clean-up will run 30
minutes after (included in the scheduled time). Four stations (produce, grains, dairy, and protein) will
help participants to learn how to make healthier choices while on a tight budget. After visiting all four
stations, participants receive a Cooking Matters informational booklet with healthy recipes and a $10
gift card to Walmart!

See our volunteer position descriptions below to find a role the works for you.
Event Day Volunteer Positions:
Nutrition Educators: Located at each station, nutrition educators provide food samples and deliver
talking points that help participants recognize the healthful options in that food group while saving

Registration Table Volunteers: Table staff will help the participants complete paperwork and provide an
overview of how the tour works.

Greeters: Greeters meet participants and encourage them to take part in the tour, informing them of
them of the benefits and incentives! They will direct shoppers toward the registration table.
Support Volunteers: Provides overall support for the staff team, including help with replenishing
materials, helping with set-up and clean-up and providing breaks to other staff.
Our volunteers are a vital part of helping families put the healthy food they deserve on the table so no
experience is required for any of the stations. Volunteers will receive the information and materials
necessary to have a successful experience.
Please contact Ayo Zahra at if you are interested in volunteering.
