We are seeking community members who are passionate about intercultural experiences / foreign languages / world travel / world history and current events / world peace, and who have connections to civic-minded high school age kids who might be interested in hosting or interacting with international exchange students. The ultimate goal is to sign up families to become host families for the 2018/19 school year, August to May, and to support the students and families during the exchange. So we are looking to drum up interest in international exchange, learning about the world through personal friendships, and helping international students have their American experience by finding them a host brother or sister or parent. This is a wonderful opportunity to make personal connections in another part of the world by bringing the world to Western North Carolina. The high schools accept a total of five exchange students per school year. Theoretically we could place students in all of the area high schools, Buncombe and Henderson counties. Then there will be opportunities to take the kids to see local sights and host events throughout the year, even if you are not a host yourself. Let's make the Asheville area more international and start lifelong friendships with people from around the world.
