ORGANIZATION: Habitat Stewardship Project Monterey Bay

Our last such event of the year, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on Fort Ord National Monument(FONM) is partnering with the Return of the Natives (RON) to put the finishing touches on a habitat restoration site using native plants. This Saturday, February 24th, we will be serenaded by live music while planting native plants on the beautiful FONM and volunteers are encouraged to help us plant 750 native plants at a coastal grassland habitat restoration site in the Fort Ord Backcountry.

To join us, follow the BLM Special Event signs from either Reservation Rd. at Imjin Parkway or Lightfighter Drive off Hwy 1. These signs will guide you to 8th Ave./Gigling Gate from where you will be escorted at 10am through the gate to the project site. Along the way, you will be fascinated and amazed at the beautiful and ever-changing landscape vistas.

Wear gardening type clothing and sturdy shoes.

All refreshments, gloves, and supplies provided.

Mission Statement

Bringing Nature Closer to People and People Closer to Nature Through Hands-on Participation in Restoring Habitats

Description

Return of the Natives is an environmental education program dedicated to involving students (Kindergarten through University) and local communities in habitat restoration.

The Return of the Natives Restoration Education Project (RON) is the education and outreach branch of The Watershed Institute at California State University Monterey Bay (CSUMB). Based at CSUMB, RON helps the university fulfill its mission by providing service opportunities for students and working closely with the Service Learning Institute.

RON's environmental goal is to protect the waters of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary through restoration of the waterways and the lands draining into the bay. RON's social goal is to bring people and nature together on our restoration and education projects in the watersheds of Monterey County from the Monterey Peninsula to North Monterey County and from Salinas to San Ardo.
