One of the most powerful ways an international visitor can learn about U.S. life and culture is by connecting on a person-to-person level; there is no better way to truly connect on a personal level than by hosting an international visitor in your home.
Participants on this U.S. Department of State-funded program are between the ages of 15 and 17 and are recruited from all provinces in Iraq. Throughout their exchange, students explore themes of leadership development, civic rights and responsibilities, respect for diversity, and community engagement. Competitively-selected American students also join Iraqi participants in all U.S. activities.
We are currently seeking hospitable Portland-area residents to open their homes to these youth for the duration of their stay in Portland. Host families provide a supportive and welcoming environment, an individual bed, breakfasts and dinners, and may assist with transportation to and from WorldOregon's downtown office. Weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the visitors will participate in workshops and program activities coordinated by WorldOregon.
To become a host, or for questions, please email laura@worldoregon.org
