We are always looking for volunteers that are excited to share their time with patients and families experiencing the end-of-life journey. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities to offer based on volunteer availability, preferences, and skills. Hospice volunteers can be administrative, patient care, or bereavement volunteers. Administrative volunteers can work in the office or from their homes depending on what tasks they are assigned. These tasks can include answering phones, scanning or copying paperwork, creating volunteer notebooks, calling to check on patients, and other office work as needed. Patient care volunteers work directly in patient homes or facilities. They provide companionship and socialization to patients, as well as relief to caregivers. They do NOT provide any physical care - NO transfers, medication administration, incontinence care, etc. These visits generally last from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on patient needs and volunteer availability. Bereavement volunteers assist the Bereavement Coordinator in providing follow-up services after a death. These tasks include sending mailings, calling family members, making bereavement visits, or participating in support groups. All volunteer types are responsible for recording their times and completing appropriate documentation.

Description

Encompass Hospice provides quality end-of-life care to people with terminal illnesses. Patients live at home or in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. Our team approach addresses physical, psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual needs. We care for our patients as well as their families and loved ones, continuing to provide bereavement services for 13 months after the patient's death.
