Mission Statement
The Cleveland Grays strive to preserve their historic Armory Museum, advance the military heritage of Greater Cleveland through public awareness and education programs, and support the men and women of the American armed forces.
Description
The Cleveland Grays originally formed in 1837 to serve Cleveland as the first peace offices and the nation as an independent militia. They fought for the Union during the Civil War and served as America's Soldiers before the National Guard Acts of 1903. The Grays Armory became a non-profit history museum in 1974. The Grays continue to serve Cleveland, primarily as Honor Guards during parades and at military funerals or in historic re-enactments and dedication ceremonies. Their mission is to support the American military, preserve the armory, and advance the military heritage of Cleveland through education and public programming.
