I first met Vivian on a short-term trip to East Asia with East-West. Our paths crossed again when I returned on a longer assignment to teach English. Our relationship continued to grow as I spent time visiting with Vivian and another former student I had grown close to. Vivian surprised me nearly a year later when she called asking if I knew of a school in my city. As it turns out, the university is only a 10-minute drive from my house. She then informed me that her husband planned to attend the university, and she was going to visit him during her winter break. She arrived in my town in January and I invited her to attend ESL conversation and Bible study classes. Vivian heard about Jesus when we first met and then again when one of her friends who came to faith during that trip invited her to a local church. After attending the first week, I invited her to come to church with me. Her exposure to the church overseas warmed her to coming. I soon learned that she cried the first time she attended church and felt very moved again during the church service she attended with me. She wanted to know why she felt like crying in church, and I gave her the only explanation that seemed right—God was working in her life. A month later, she headed to an ESL Bible study to find that the teacher was ill and class was cancelled. I had been her transportation all along, so we went back to her place and completed the study together. Let by the Spirit, I shared the gospel in a simple and clear way. That day she became a follower of Jesus and the next week she was baptized at the church that had taught her English and the Bible!

Volunteer Summary

The East-West Human Resources team is seeking an Employee Relations Volunteer who will be a valuable part of the Human Resources team. The volunteer will act as the East-West "Sunshine Coordinator" and will be a blessing to East-West staff by making all purchases and arrangements for work anniversary gifts, flowers, meal calendars and employee events such as birthday, retirement, and other special celebrations. In addition, the volunteer will assist with other HR projects and support as needed with preparing simple excel reports, light filing, printing and/or binding materials.

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

  • Uphold a close and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • A baptized believer of Jesus Christ
  • Faithful member of a local church
  • Party planning experience, preferred
  • Similar work and/or volunteer experience, preferred
  • Ability to use a computer
  • Ability to operate within a budget
  • Caring demeanor
  • Detail Oriented
