Volunteer Saturday mornings (you can choose how often) at our CalFresh booth at the Country Club Plaza Certified Farmer’s Market. Clients trade food stamp credits for scrip the farm vendors accept in payment. You scan the EBT (food stamp) card, hand out the scrip, accept scrip back from the farm vendors and log entries. Sit in the shade, help nice people, and enjoy the sights, sounds and scents of the market. It takes just a bit of training to learn how to run the machine and handle the paperwork. Description
Grace PC is small but active congregation. Food justice has been one of our primary missions for over 30 years. We support local food pantries through regular volunteer help and direct donation of fresh produce from our campus garden, and we manage a booth at the local farmers market at which food stamp clients can trade credits for scrip the local farmers will accept. Clients get access to healthy fresh produce and local farmers get more customers making them more viable.
