"If you want to feel good and be inspired and empowered, then judge tournaments at the BDL. It's a great opportunity to help out your community because these students are actually making a difference." - Lorena, BDL Alumna and Volunteer
Join our team for our first high school debate tournament of the season! No experience is necessary. A self-paced training (required) is available for all first-time and returning volunteers.
As a volunteer judge, you will listen to debaters, take notes, offer encouragement and feedback, and determine a winner in each round. Multiple shift are available. Each shift, you'll judge two rounds, ensuring that 8 student have the opportunity to compete. Debate tournaments happen virtually: you'll receive instructions and links when you sign up.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to integrate argumentation and competitive debate into public schools in Boston to develop critical thinkers ready for college, career, and engagement with the world around them.
Description
The Boston Debate League (BDL) is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with the Boston Public Schools (BPS) to support academic debate teams in local high schools and train BPS teachers to use debate as a regular part of their classroom practice. We offer debate and argumentation programs for young people in Greater Boston, with a commitment to serving students of color and other students who have been denied these educational opportunities. We tailor our programs to address the educational inequities they experience, and strive to create inclusive learning communities where all participants are welcome and supported in achieving the transformative, lifelong benefits of debate.
