Our school tour volunteers lead one-hour tours of The Children’s Farm to school groups ranging in ages (3 years and up) and size (10-30 individuals). Guides share their knowledge of the farm and invite children in to meet the animals. Volunteers interested in this position must be comfortable interacting and managing children in a group setting, as well as be comfortable handling some of our smaller farm animals. Orientation includes shadowing a minimum of 3 tours given by a seasoned guide and reading through the tour manual.

Farm Tours run Monday-Friday depending on booking. There are NO tours on weekends, with the exception of Birthday Parties, which have a similar hour long format (Please inquire if this is something you are interested in). Tour times are 9:30am, 10:45am, 12:00pm, and 1:00pm. Once you have applied to be a farm tour guide, shadowed tours, and approved to do tours, you will have access to the schedule and will be able to sign up for as many tours as you would like.

Please visit our website to fill out a volunteer application and sign-up for a volunteer orientation: https://thecenterpalos.org/farm/volunteering-at-the-farm/

About The Children's Farm at The Center

Location:

12700 Southwest Hwy., Palos Park, IL 60464, US

Mission Statement

The Center’s mission is to give people of all faiths, backgrounds, and ages the space to dream, grow, and become fully alive--physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Our goal is to connect people, animals and nature.

Description

The Children's Farm at The Center offers a rare and wonderful learning place where kids experience farm animals of all types, how they live, what they eat, how they feel and sound. Here, chickens lay eggs, sheep grow wool, cows give milk and horses eat hay harvested right from our fields. At the same time, children see crops grow and begin to understand the importance of farms and farmers to their own survival. Imagine - milk doesn’t have its origins in a cardboard or plastic carton! We offer a host of enriching farm programs, where children can handle the animals and experience the life of the farm.
