STAR Readers fill a vital role in our library and in our community. STAR stands for Sit Together And Read, and our STAR Readers do just that. We ask that a reader commit to 1 - 2 hours per week on a regular basis (e.g. Tuesdays from 11:00-12:00). Many educators and psychologists recognize the importance of one-on-one reading in the literacy development of children--and many children sadly do not get one-on-one reading at home. We ask that our STAR volunteers are comfortable approcahing children in the children's area of the library and share a book or two with the children. Children who receive this attention are very appreciative and so are their parents. STAR Readers go through a background check and are treated to a quick training session.
