Location: Aunt Leah’s Place, New Westminster
Number of Volunteers Needed: 1 volunteer per shift.
Dan’s Legacy provides therapeutic counselling and life-skills intervention programs to youth battling mental health and addictions issues resulting from childhood trauma and abuse. Every Sunday, we welcome many of our clients to a special community dinner serving freshly prepared, hot meals served by volunteers. Meals are created entirely from surplus food donated by outlets of a national grocery chain. Food insecurity is a reality for many children and youth in our province, and at Dan’s Legacy we’re working hard to make sure at-risk youth get the support they need. Food is readily available to youth to bring home after the meal.
Volunteers will work under the supervision of staff to assist in serving meals for up to 20 participating youth during program days and maintaining the kitchen area including washing dishes and general kitchen clean up after meal service.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Ability to stand for a few hours at a time.
- Must be reliable and able to commit to full shift.
- Good attitude and ability to assist a diverse group including youth clients and work cooperatively with staff and fellow volunteers.
- Knowledge of food safety and handling procedures an asset.
Suitable for students, retirees and volunteer groups.
