A volunteer helping our Garden Manager communicate with one of the Danny Woo Community Garden elder gardeners.

The Danny Woo Community Garden in Seattle's Chinatown International District is hosting a gardner registration and seed swap event for its elder gardeners. We need interpreters who speak Cantonese, Mandarin, and Korean in order to help garden staff communicate effectively with gardeners and for gardeners to communicate with each other so they can register their plots for the coming year and exchange and gather new varieties of seeds to plant. Many of the elders already swap seeds with each other, but we hope that this event will give them greater access to new varieties of crops that will help connect them with healthy food and cultural heritage. Interpreters would help answer register gardeners, translate written information about seeds, communicate between gardeners who want to trade seeds and listen to gardener concerns.
