The purpose of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Pinellas County (RSVP) is to create meaningful opportunities for persons 55 years of age and above to participate more fully in the life of their community through volunteer service. RSVP has partnered with the Sunshine Senior Center to recruit volunteers who are 55+ for the specific opportunities listed below.
About The Center
The Sunshine Center is a nationally accredited multi-service center where seniors gather for support, socialization, fitness and/or other services provided for older people. The resources and activities available at this center help many older people remain a vital part of their communities. The center provides a welcoming environment for all seniors in the community interested in taking part in the group atmosphere.Sunshine Center’s Mission
We celebrate aging by partnering with our community to provide creative programming, advocacy and resources that promote vitality, independence and wellness for adults ages 55 or better. What is a Senior Center?
At every stage of life, people are drawn to a community of peers for recreation, socialization, and support from their peers. Children have school and recreational activities such as soccer, dance. Young adults have "hangouts." Adults may find this in the workplace, community or civic organizations, and even the local coffee shop.
Senior centers are dedicated to enriching the lives of older adults, providing a place where they can find a community of peers to socialize, learn together, enhance their well-being, access resources, and find support. Similar to the way a park district may provide classes and activities designed for children and families, a senior center is a place with classes, activities and services designed specifically for older adults.
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
- Café Attendee - prepare and serve food for the public, handle cash register, provide a polite and welcoming environment for café patrons.
- Program Set-Up - assist with the set up of chairs, tables, and projectors for various activities at the center.
- Front Desk Assistant - greet patrons, and answer phones and general questions about the center.
The center is currently in need of volunteers Monday - Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is one of the largest volunteer networks in the nation for people 55 years and over. You can use the skills and talents you’ve learned over the years, or develop new ones while serving in a variety of volunteer activities within your community.
We strengthen the communities we serve by addressing identified significant local needs, such as homelessness, food insecurity, aging in place for seniors, children in welfare and safety programs, and veterans and military families. RSVP takes the guesswork out of volunteering by partnering with a variety of nonprofit agencies in Pinellas and Pasco Counties to help you find the right fit for your volunteer service. You choose where, when, and how often you want to spend your time!
Benfits of RSVP include: mileage reimbursement for travel to and from your volunteer station, accident and personal liability insurance, small death benefit while performing volunteer duties, volunteer recognition events, socialization with peers, and personal growth.
